AI video communities
compared, honestly

It depends on what you want. Reddit is free, public and best for searchable answers; tool makers' Discord servers are best for help with one tool; Skool's AI Filmmaking group charges $7 a month and Curious Refuge $199 a month (or $149 a month paid yearly) for courses with a community attached; and The Scene Makers is a free WhatsApp community with brand briefs for working creators.

Which AI video community should you join?

Pick by what you need this month: answers, help with one tool, lessons, or other creators and paid work. Nothing stops you joining more than one.

What do creators want from a community?

Two things came up in the threads we read: independence and activity. One creator asked for “Something that’s not tied to some paid course etc.” and found “Reddit is a bit slow, public and inpersonal”.

When another proposed a casual AI filmmakers group, a reply warned about a similar Discord: “I joined but it seemed dead on arrival.” The same person added: “There are hundreds of us, not thousands, and only a tiny fraction of us will reliably engage.”

So before you join, look for recent posts, replies from people who make things, and clear rules on self-promotion.

Who does each community suit?

Reddit suits you if you want answers you can search later and blunt critique from strangers. It does not suit you if you want to know the people you are talking to, or quick replies.

Tool makers’ Discord servers suit you if you use one tool heavily and want its updates, prompt tips and support. They are large and busy: by Discord’s own count, Pika’s alone showed more than 17,000 members online in each of our reads. They are run by the company, so expect the conversation to stay on its product. Higgsfield’s describes itself as “The official Higgsfield AI community”. Midjourney’s server is bigger still, at over 18 million members, but it serves a text-to-image tool.

Skool’s Ai Filmmaking suits you if you want one instructor’s method at a low price. It is private, costs “$7/month”, and the page warns: “Price goes up to $50/month soon!” It shows a 5.0 rating from 28 reviews.

Curious Refuge suits you if you want structured courses and a route into studio work and can pay for it. The membership is priced at “$149/mo” as an annual plan “intended to be paid at once”; month to month it is “$199/month”. A single course is $749. Its FAQ says members of its invite-only network “are recommended directly for paid jobs and creative opportunities at studios and brands across the industry.”

The Scene Makers suits you if you want a free, small-group feel with other creators and a path to paid brand work. It runs on WhatsApp in two groups: Beginners, open to anyone learning, and Creators, which asks for 5 or more published AI videos, 10,000+ combined views and 1,000+ followers. Brands send AI video briefs to the community, and the Creators group sees them first. Shared chats are in English, and course selling is not allowed.

When is The Scene Makers the wrong choice?

We are one of the options, so here is where we do not fit.

  • You want a course. We run member sessions and share workflows, not a structured course. Skool’s AI Filmmaking and Curious Refuge are built for that.
  • You want answers others can search. WhatsApp chats are not public, so a fix shared there will not show up in a search. Reddit is better for that.
  • You need deep help with one tool. The tool’s own Discord has its staff and many more of its users.
  • You would rather not use WhatsApp. Everything we run is there.

Do you need to pay to be in an AI video community?

No. Reddit, the tool makers’ Discord servers and The Scene Makers are free. Pay when you want teaching: a $7 group for one instructor’s method, or $199 a month ($149 a month if you pay a year upfront) for a full course library with workshops and career services.

Free, on WhatsApp, with members in every country.

Questions

What is the best AI video community?

There is no single best. For searchable answers, Reddit; for help with one tool, that tool's Discord; for structured lessons, a paid course community such as Skool's AI Filmmaking or Curious Refuge; for a free peer group with brand work, The Scene Makers on WhatsApp.

Is there a free AI video community?

Yes. Reddit's AI video subreddits, tool makers' Discord servers such as Pika's, Higgsfield's and Runway's, and The Scene Makers' WhatsApp groups are all free to join.

Which AI video Discord server is the biggest?

Of the AI video tool servers we checked on 29 October 2026, Viggle's was the largest, with about 4.1 million members by Discord's count, then Pika's (about 860,000), Higgsfield AI's (about 262,000) and Runway's (about 109,000). Midjourney's server is bigger, at over 18 million, but Midjourney describes itself as a text-to-image tool.

Are paid AI filmmaking communities worth it?

They are courses first. Skool's AI Filmmaking group is $7 a month and Curious Refuge's All Access Membership is $199 month to month, or $149 a month as an annual plan paid upfront. Pay if you want structured lessons and feedback from instructors; for peer help alone, the free options cover a lot.

Can I find paid AI video work through a community?

Some offer it. Curious Refuge says members in its invite-only network are recommended for paid jobs, and brands send briefs to The Scene Makers, where the Creators group sees them first. Reddit and tool Discords are mainly for help and sharing work.

How we checked this

We read each paid community's own page on 29 October 2026 for its price and size, and took Discord member counts from Discord's own invite data the same day. Discord's counts are approximate and moved slightly between our reads, so we round them. We did not read current subscriber counts for Reddit, so we give none. The Scene Makers facts come from our own community page. The quotes about what creators want come from Reddit threads in May and June 2026 and are individual views. We are one of the options on this page, so we say where we do not fit. If something has changed, tell us on WhatsApp and we will update this page.
