Music and sound effects for AI video:
what's safe to publish

For YouTube, the safest music is the YouTube Audio Library: YouTube says its tracks won't be claimed through Content ID and can be monetised. For client work, use a licence that allows commercial use, such as Pixabay's (some of its tracks are registered with Content ID), or a paid plan of an AI tool. Suno's free plan is non-commercial only, and ElevenLabs' free music plan does not allow downloads.

Which music and sound effects can you safely use?

It depends on where the video goes, and free plans of AI music tools mostly rule out commercial use.

SourceCostMonetised or client video?Credit needed?

On YouTube, yes. YouTube says music and effects from the library are “copyright-safe” and “won’t be claimed by a rights holder through the Content ID system”. If you are in the Partner Program, you can monetise videos that use them.

Two conditions apply. For Creative Commons tracks, “you must credit the artist” in the description. And the page covers YouTube only: “Only music and sound effects from the Audio Library are known to YouTube to be copyright-safe”.

Can you use Pixabay music in ads?

Pixabay’s licence summary lets you use content free, without crediting the author, and change it. The limits: you cannot sell or distribute it on its own, without creative work added, and content that shows recognisable trademarks or logos cannot be used commercially for goods and services. Pixabay notes that only its full Content License is legally binding.

On YouTube, Pixabay music can still be claimed. Pixabay says “Many music composers, including those that share their work on Pixabay, have their content digitally fingerprinted via Content ID”. The fix it gives: download the Pixabay License Certificate with the track and use it to dispute the claim, ask the author to remove it, or swap the track.

Can you use Suno or ElevenLabs music commercially?

In practice, only on a paid plan. Suno’s free plan is non-commercial, and ElevenLabs’ free plan cannot download music.

  • Suno. Suno’s help centre says songs made on its free plan “can only be used for non-commercial purposes”, and subscribing to Pro or Premier does not cover earlier songs by default. The Free plan also has no downloads. Pro is $10 a month, or $8 billed yearly, with 20 downloads a month and commercial rights; Premier is $24 a month billed yearly, with 60 (Suno). Suno adds: “See the terms of service for limitations on commercial use.”
  • ElevenLabs Music. The Music Terms, updated on 9 October 2026, list downloads on the free plan as “Not permitted” and attribution as required. Every self-serve plan’s media rights allow commercial use “except film, TV, radio, and Studio Games”; only Enterprise Music has no such exception. Free, Starter, Creator and Pro are “For Individual Use Only”; Scale is for organisations with fewer than 10 employees, Business fewer than 50. ElevenLabs warns that the wrong plan “may result in suspension or termination of your account or loss of Output”. Paid plans need no attribution, and distribution to streaming services starts at the Creator plan.

Do AI sound effects need a credit?

For ElevenLabs, only on the free plan. Its sound effects page says: “our free plan requires attribution to elevenlabs.io. Our paid plans do not require attribution and can be used in commercial projects.” But its pricing page lists the commercial licence as a Starter feature, not a Free one. With the two pages at odds, use Starter or above for client work.

Can AI music get a Content ID claim?

Yes, and AI music is not automatically original. In one Reddit thread about claims, one Suno user writes that “Suno generated an exact copy of a song I heard somewhere else”, which they matched with Shazam. Another says Suno has produced “exact replicas of well known compositions more than once”. The first reply in the thread reads it differently: “You are likely getting Content ID matched with your prior uploads.” These are individual reports, not a measured rate.

How do you add sound to a silent AI clip?

Most new models generate sound with the picture: Veo 3.1 takes labelled lines such as “SFX: thunder cracks in the distance”, and Kling 4.0 generates music and effects from the visuals.

When the generated audio is wrong, two October releases work on the finished video. ElevenLabs Instant Soundtracks scores the video and places effects on the action, and through the API can return music and effects as separate files. Mirelo SFX 2.0 removes unwanted music, keeps the dialogue and adds effects, foley and ambience. Check each tool’s plan terms before you use the result in a paid video.

A simple rule for client and monetised work

Subscribe before you generate; Suno says a subscription does not cover earlier songs by default. Note the source, plan and licence page for every track, with the date.

Questions

Is YouTube Audio Library music safe to monetise?

Yes, on YouTube. YouTube says Audio Library music won't be claimed through Content ID and that Partner Program members can monetise videos that use it. Tracks under a Creative Commons licence must be credited in the video description.

Can I use Suno songs in monetised videos?

Only songs made while you are on a paid plan. Suno says free-plan songs are for non-commercial use only, and subscribing later does not cover them by default. Paid plans start at $10 a month.

Do I need to credit ElevenLabs for sound effects?

On the free plan, yes: ElevenLabs says its free plan requires attribution to elevenlabs.io. Paid plans need no attribution. For client work, use a paid plan: the pricing page lists the commercial licence from Starter up.

Can AI-generated music get a Content ID claim?

It can. Two Suno users report songs that matched existing tracks, though one reply suspects matches with the poster's own uploads, and some Pixabay tracks are registered with Content ID. YouTube vouches only for its own Audio Library.

How we checked this

We read each licence or help page itself on 29 October 2026: YouTube's Audio Library help, Pixabay's licence summary and its post on Content ID claims (dated 20 December 2021), ElevenLabs' sound effects page, pricing page and Music Terms (last updated 9 October 2026), and Suno's pricing page and help article. Pixabay's summary is not the binding licence; Pixabay says only the full Content License is. ElevenLabs' sound effects page and pricing page disagree on commercial use of free-plan effects, and the page says so. We could not read Mixkit's licence page with our tools, so it is left out. The Content ID reports come from one Reddit thread, and each is one person's account, including one reply that disagrees. This is not legal advice. If something has changed, tell us on WhatsApp and we will update this page.
